- Do I get priority based on when my application is submitted?
Priority is not given based on the date of submission of the application.

First-year students are not able to indicate building preferences. Assignments will be made based on room type, roommate and residential learning community interests. There will be an opportunity for room switch requests after assignments are released.
- Is Housing open over Thanksgiving and Winter Break?
Yes, select communities are open during university break periods including Thanksgiving and Semester break. If you are needing housing over the break, you can select “Housing Over the Break” in your preferences during the license agreement process.

Move-in dates will be assigned between August 18-20, 2021. Students will receive their assigned move-in date in July. Please wait to make travel plans until you receive your assigned move-in date.
- Am I required to live on campus my sophomore year?
All incoming first-time freshmen from outside SDSU’s local admissions area are required to live on campus their freshman and sophomore years.
- Can I come on campus during the summer to tour the residence halls?
For safety and security of our residents, guests and non-residents are not permitted to tour the residence halls. However, you can explore our communities by taking a virtual tour.

Due to space limitations, note that placement in a learning community is not guaranteed. We recommend selecting multiple learning communities that you are interested in to increase the likelihood of being placed in a learning community.
- I have specific dietary restrictions, can I elect not to have a meal plan?
SDSU Dining accommodates a wide array of dietary restrictions. Our executive chef is available to consult with students regarding individual needs.

There are three opportunities throughout the academic year in which you can elect to change your meal plan.
