Move-Out Spring 2021
*The below information applies to students with a 9-month license agreement only. Students with an 11.5-month license agreement will be be provided with move-out instructions in July.
Important: Please read the following check-out procedures carefully. You must move out by 8
p.m. on the day of your last final exam. Housing facilities close at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 14.
You will be required to attend a virtual closing meeting provided by your community staff. Your RA/CA will inform you of the date and time of the meeting.
Each student can be accompanied by no more than two (2) family members or guests during
move-out. To help ensure personal and community health and well-being, please wear a face covering,
practice physical distancing, wash your hands frequently and avoid congregating with
others throughout the moving period.
For the health and safety of our students, we further ask that family members or guests please limit their time inside the residential community. Review the information provided by the CDC on how to protect yourself and others.
Discuss cleaning and any damages with your roommate(s). If needed, complete a Cleaning and Damage Responsibility Form and return it to your community front desk after signing.
Please clean your entire space including your bedroom, bathroom(s), kitchen and living area. This includes:
- Remove any stickers, tape and adhesives from furniture, doors, walls and windows
- Return furniture to original position
- Remove all non-university furniture and items
- Take all trash, including rugs and foam bed covers, to the dumpsters
Cleaning supplies and vacuums are available at your community front desk. Fees may be assessed for spaces that are not cleaned properly.
Log in to the Housing Portal to complete the Room Inspection Form. Fees for cleaning and damages will be processed by your Residence Hall Coordinator
If you would like your RA/CA to complete a virtual pre-inspection with you, please sign up for a Zoom meeting time with your RA/CA. Virtual pre-inspections are available from April 28, 2021 to May 7, 2021. Your RA/CA will provide you with sign-up instructions.
After you clean out your space and complete the Room Inspection Form on the Housing Portal, complete the check-out process:
- Deposit your keys inside the check-out envelope (provided by your RA/CA or available for pick up at your community front desk).
- Seal and sign the check-out envelope and turn it in to your community front desk.
Once you turn in your check-out envelope, you will no longer have access to your space.
Improper check-out fees will be applied if you do not follow instructions.
If you have lost or misplaced your keys, please submit a service request on the Housing Portal for new keys by May 5, 2021.
If you are moving out after hours and the front desk is closed, drop your keys at the University Towers front desk. Please call the desk 619-594-8070 to inform them that you are coming.
Join our 21st annual Give It Up donation drive. Donation bins for non-perishable food and usable items will be placed in each community. If you have left over cleaning and laundry supplies, you may leave them in the laundry room
Moving bins will be available to check out at your community front desk starting Monday, May 3. Disinfectant sprays will be provided to sanitize the moving bins.

Update your mailing address in the WebPortal to your permanent address. Any mail or packages delivered to the residential communities after check-out will be returned to the sender. If you are expecting a package, contact the sender to update to your permanent address.
Remember to take bicycles and surfboards home. Return your bike storage key (for Zura/Maya/Olmeca Bike Barn) in the check-out envelope and remove all locks from surf lockers. Abandoned property will be removed and discarded.
All parking regulations are strictly enforced. Do not park in any fire lanes during move-out or at any time. If you received a garage remote for parking, please return it to your front desk. Students who do not return their garage remotes may be charged up to $75.
It is critical that you develop a travel plan to ensure your own safety as well as the safety of the members of the household where you will be returning. Please refer to the travel guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to create your travel plan.
