First-Year Student Housing
First-Year Student Housing
The first-year student housing license agreement for the 2026-27 academic year opens on the Housing Portal on March 2, 2026. See important deadlines below.
Important Access Requirement: To access the license agreement, students must first activate their SDSUid and complete the Intent to Enroll payment. Please allow 24 hours after payment for the Housing Portal to update before attempting to log in.
University Residency Requirement
Incoming first-year students should review the University Residency Requirement page to determine whether they are required to live on campus.
- Required: Incoming first-year students who are required to live on campus must complete the license agreement and submit the initial non-refundable payment fee on the Housing Portal by May 1, 2026. Follow the "Completing the Student Housing License Agreement" steps outlined below.
- Not required: Incoming first-year students who are not required to live on campus, but would like to, are encouraged to complete the Housing Interest List on the Housing Portal as early as March 2, 2026. On-campus housing for local students is not guaranteed and will be offered upon availability on a first-come, first-served basis.
Completing the Student Housing License Agreement
Incoming first-year students required to live on campus must complete Stage I and Stage II of the license agreement on the Housing Portal.
- Stage I (Sign the License Agreement) opens on March 2, 2026, and must be completed by May 1, 2026.
- Stage II (Indicate Preferences) opens on May 1, 2026, and must be completed by May 15, 2026.
Stage I: Sign the License Agreement (March 2 - May 1, 2026)
- Accept the Offer of Admission by submitting the Intent to Enroll non-refundable payment. Students will be granted access to the Housing Portal approximately 24 hours after submitting the Intent to Enroll payment on my.SDSU.
- Before logging into the Housing Portal, students should use their SDSUid login credentials to activate DUO multi-factor authentication. Please plan for additional time to complete this step.
- Students should log onto the Housing Portal with their SDSUid, apply for on-campus housing and pay the non-refundable $375 initial payment fee.
- E-sign and submit the completed license agreement by the Intent to Enroll deadline of May 1, 2026. Note: Priority is not based on submission date; all applications received by May 1, 2026, are treated equally.
Stage II: Indicate Preferences (May 1 - May 15, 2026)
Log back into the Housing Portal between May 1 and May 15 to provide the following information used for room placement.
- Meal Plan (Required): All first-year and second-year students living on campus are required to have a meal plan. First-year students may choose from three (3) meal plan options: Flex 5, Flex 7 or Meals Plus. Additional meal plan options are available for sophomore year. Meal plans may be changed during designated change periods throughout the academic year. For more information, visit eatatsdsu.com.
- Room Type (Required): Students must select at least two room type preferences from the following options: single, double, triple or quad. Room type preferences are not guaranteed. As the most commonly preferred room type, a majority of first-year spaces are triple-occupancy rooms. Single, double and quad rooms are limited, so students should expect to be assigned to a triple room. Building-specific requests are not available for first-year students. Housing rates vary by room type and meal plan.
- Housing Over University Break Periods (Required): Certain buildings will close over university break periods (i.e. Thanksgiving, winter and spring breaks), whereas others will remain open for students to occupy the rooms. As the buildings that will remain open over university breaks are pre-identified and grouped for safety reasons, students must indicate in advance if they plan to stay or leave during these periods.
Note: while unlikely, specific buildings that will be open over break periods are subject to change prior to move-in, and would be communicated to all students if there were any changes. - Learning Community (Optional): A variety of learning communities are available to choose from based on academic or co-curricular interests, shared identities or lifestyle preferences. Placement in a learning community is based on availability and cannot be guaranteed. By selecting one (or multiple) learning community interests, students agree to be placed in that community and the classes associated with it (if applicable).
- Search and confirm roommates (Optional): Students who wish to live with specific roommate(s) may form a roommate group or search for roommates with shared interests. Roommate groups may include two (2) or three (3) students. Because most rooms are triple-occupancy, groups of two may be assigned a third roommate.
All roommates must mutually confirm room placement with each other. To accommodate roommate requests, each student in the roommate group must have the same room type and learning community interests. Students who do not form a roommate group will be assigned roommate(s) based on responses to the lifestyle questions.
Assignments
Housing assignments will be released in July on the Housing Portal. Students will also receive an email notification to their SDSU email address.
Cancellation Deadline
Students who are not required to live on campus or students who have withdrawn from the university may cancel their license agreement by the cancellation deadline of July 20, 2026. A cancellation request must be submitted in writing from the student's SDSU email and addressed to [email protected]. Cancellation requests received after July 20, 2026, will be assessed for additional fees. For more information, please visit the License Agreement page.
