Note: This information is for students who are moving out prior to the end of their license agreement. Details regarding regular move-out will be shared in mid-April (for 9-month license agreements) and early July (for 11.5-month license agreements).

  • 9-month housing facilities close at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022.
  • 11-5 month housing facilities close at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022. 

Please remember that regardless of the date you check out, you will be billed in full for the remainder of your license agreement. Students who want to cancel their license agreement after the cancellation deadline and have circumstances that meet the cancellation criteria may submit a Contract Release Request Form to the Office of Housing Administration via email at [email protected] with any supporting documents.

Check-Out Procedures

Each student can be accompanied by no more than two (2) family members or guests during move-out. To help ensure personal and community health and well-being, please wear a face covering and wash your hands frequently throughout the moving period. For the health and safety of our students, we further ask that family members or guests please limit their time inside the residential community. Review the information provided by the CDC on how to protect yourself and others.

Cleaning

Please clean your entire space including your bedroom, bathroom(s), kitchen and living area. This includes: 

  • Remove any stickers from furniture, doors, walls and windows
  • Return furniture to original position
  • Remove all non-university furniture and items
  • Take all trash, rugs and foam bed covers to the dumpsters

Cleaning supplies and vacuums are available at your community front desk. Fees may be assessed for spaces that are not cleaned properly.

Regular Check-Out

  • Contact your RA/CA to schedule an early check-out inspection at least 48 hours prior to your move-out date.
  • Remove all of your belongings and clean your space prior to the inspection. 
  • After the inspection is complete, return your keys to the RA/CA. 
  • Fees for cleaning and damages will be processed by your Residence Hall Coordinator after move-out.

Express Check-Out

Express check-out is for students who do not complete a check-out inspection with their RA/CA. By completing an express check-out, students waive their right to contest any damage charges. 

  • Once you have removed all of your belongings and cleaned your space, report to your community front desk to check out. 
  • Deposit your keys inside the check-out envelope then seal and sign it.
  • Leave the envelope in the designated box at the front desk. 
  • Fees for cleaning and damages will be processed by your Residence Hall Coordinator after move-out.

Mail

Update your mailing address in the WebPortal to your permanent address. Any mail or packages delivered to The UPS Store after check-out will be returned to the sender. If you are expecting a package, contact the sender to update to your permanent address.

Bikes & Surfboards

Remember to take bicycles and surfboards home. Return your bike storage key (for Zura/Maya/Olmeca Bike Barn) in the express check-out envelope and remove all locks from surf lockers. Abandoned property will be removed and discarded.

Parking

All parking regulations are strictly enforced. Do not park in any fire lanes during move-out or at any time. 

If you received a garage remote for parking, please return it to your front desk. Students who do not return their garage remotes may be charged up to $75.

Traveling

It is critical that you develop a travel plan to ensure your own safety as well as the safety of the members of the household where you will be returning. Please refer to the travel guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to create your travel plan.
