Thank you for living on campus and making San Diego State University your home! We hope your experience brought you community, lifelong friends and opportunities for social and academic engagement. We appreciate your contribution to making our campus a vibrant and inclusive place to live and learn!

In preparation for housing move-out, you are required to complete the Move-Out Form by Friday, July 24, on the Housing Portal, which can be found under the “Forms” menu. In the form, you will confirm your acknowledgment of our move-out policies and procedures.

Note: Residents who do not follow checkout procedures will be assessed improper checkout fees and may also incur cleaning and/or damage charges.

Aztec Corner will close at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 31.

Refer to the email from your Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC), Janae Ross, in mid-July, for information regarding checkout appointments and instructions.

Community Assistants (CAs) will be available at the Aztec Corner front desk for walk-in room inspections. No appointment is necessary.

Inspection Availability:

  • July 27–30: 9 a.m.–9 p.m.
  • July 31: 7–9:30 a.m.

If you choose to check out at the front desk, you will complete an Express Checkout Form and place your keys in the envelope provided. Residents checking out after front desk hours should complete their checkout at the Huāxyacac front desk.

Front Desk Hours:

  • Monday–Friday: 9 a.m.–9 p.m.
  • Saturday–Sunday: noon–3 p.m.

After the building closes, your (RHC) will conduct a full apartment inspection to assess any charges related to excessive trash, cleaning or damage.

M@College will close at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 31, for residents housed through the SDSU Housing License Agreement.

If you would like a walkthrough inspection, email your CA by Wednesday, July 22, to schedule an appointment.

Community Assistant Contacts:

During the walkthrough inspection, your CA will inspect your space, collect your keys, and complete your checkout from your assigned room.

Viva will close at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 31.

If you have lost or misplaced your key or fob, submit a Service Request on the Housing Portal immediately. The last day to report a lost key or fob is Wednesday, July 29. Be sure to hand in your keys to your CA or the front desk to avoid improper checkout charges. Keys cannot be returned by mail.

Save yourself from disputes and unnecessary damage fees. Avoid move-out fees by completing the Damage Responsibility Form before your checkout appointment, designating which areas you are taking responsibility for. If a resident does not take responsibility for a damaged or improperly cleaned area, charges will be divided amongst all residents of the unit.

You are required to complete the Damage Responsibility Form prior to your checkout appointment.

Cleaning Responsibilities

Clean your entire space, including your bedroom, bathroom(s), kitchen and living area (if applicable), prior to your checkout appointment. We recommend that you come to an agreement with your roommates about how you will each clean your shared spaces. This includes:

  • Remove all personal belongings. Double-check drawers and closets are empty.
  • Restore your room to its initial move-in condition, including furniture set-up.
  • Take all trash and recycling to the outside dumpsters. 
  • Wipe down all surfaces, including furniture and walls.
  • Vacuum and sweep the floor, including under the bed.
  • Leave your drawers and closet doors open in preparation for your CA inspection.
  • Submit a Service Request on the Housing Portal for any outstanding maintenance or repair needs in your unit before your checkout appointment. Service requests cannot be submitted to clean your unit.

DO NOT:

  • Do not remove nails, screws or command strips from walls.
  • Do not unplug the mini-fridge.
  • Do not dispose of large items down the community trash chutes. Take all trash and recycling to the outside dumpsters.

Cleaning Caddies and vacuums are available to check out at your community front desk.

Do not leave any unwanted items behind in your space. Abandoned items are subject to a $100 or more abandonment fee. 

Take unwanted items to the dumpsters, or donate any usable items in the donation bin outside your community. Note: Mattress toppers cannot be donated.

A limited number of moving bins will be available to check out at your community front desk beginning Monday, July 27.

If you need to ship or store your personal belongings, make arrangements with our campus partner, collegeboxes.com. Create an account and enter promo code SDSU2026 for 10% savings. 

Cardboard boxes, tape and other packing supplies can be purchased from The UPS Stores on campus.

Portable storage containers (PODS, U-Box, etc.) are not allowed and may be towed if placed on university property.

Don’t forget your bike and/or surfboard! Be sure to remove your belongings from bike storage areas and remove surfboard storage locks. Abandoned property will be removed and may result in abandonment charges.

All parking regulations are strictly enforced. Do not park in any fire lanes during move-out or at any time. 

If you received a garage remote for parking, return it to your front desk or give it to your CA at checkout. Students who do not return their garage remotes will be charged a $100+ replacement fee.

Update your mailing address in my.SDSU to your permanent address. Any mail or packages delivered to The UPS Store after checkout will be returned to the sender. If you are expecting a package, contact the sender to update your permanent address.

M@College Residents: provide your permanent address on the resident portal. To do this, log in to your resident portal, go to Settings > Personal Information and edit your alternate mailing address. Mail will not be forwarded by the M@College Office. Any mail or packages not claimed will be returned to the sender.
