University Residency Requirement

Required Residency (Non-Local Students)

First-year students from outside SDSU’s local admissions area are required to live on campus and have a meal plan for both their first and second years at the university. To complete the Intent to Enroll process, students must complete the Student Housing License Agreement and submit the initial non-refundable payment fee on the Housing Portal by the May 1 Intent to Enroll Deadline. Failure to meet this deadline may result in the cancellation of their admission offer. Follow the "Completing the Student Housing License Agreement" steps listed on the First-Year Student Housing application page.

Optional Residency (Local Students)

First-year students from inside SDSU’s local admissions area are not required to live on campus. However, local students who would like to live on campus are encouraged to join the Housing Interest List on the Housing Portal as early as March 2. On-campus housing for local students is not guaranteed and will be offered upon availability on a first-come, first-served basis. If space becomes available, students will be notified on a rolling basis between mid-May and August move-in to complete the license agreement. Local students who opted to live on campus their first year may apply for a second year of on-campus housing during the Sophomore Housing Lottery process.

Weber Honors College

Non-local students who have been accepted into the Weber Honors College are required to reside in the Honors Residential Learning Community (RLC) in Zura during their first year living on campus. For their second year of on-campus housing, students may choose from available sophomore housing options during the Sophomore Housing Lottery process. As with all non-local students, the two-year residency and meal plan requirement applies.

Local students in the Weber Honors College are not required to live on campus, but may choose to. If they opt for on-campus housing, they are guaranteed a spot in the Honors Residential Learning Community (RLC) in Zura during their first year living on campus if they complete the housing license agreement and submit the non-refundable payment by May 1. Local students in the Weber Honors College who opted to live on campus their first year may apply for a second year of on-campus housing during the Sophomore Housing Lottery process.

Exemptions

SDSU recognizes that exemptions to the residency requirement may be appropriate in certain circumstances and may be requested by completing the Exemption Request Form. More information regarding exemptions may be found on the License Agreement page.
