University Residency Requirement
Local Admissions Area
You are in SDSU's local admissions area if you graduate from a high school in San Diego County that is located south of state route 56 and extending eastward to the Imperial County borderline, or if you are from a high school located in Imperial County.
Non-Local Students
First-year students outside SDSU’s local admissions area are required to live on campus for both their first and second years at the university.
Non-local students who have been accepted into the Weber Honors College are required to reside in the Honors Residential Learning Community (RLC) in Zura during their first year living on campus.
To complete the Intent to Enroll process, students required to live on campus must submit the Student Housing License Agreement and a non-refundable initial payment through the Housing Portal by May 1. Failure to meet this deadline may result in the cancellation of their admission offer.
Access to the Housing Portal is granted approximately 24 hours after submitting the Intent to Enroll payment via my.SDSU. Once access is available, students must activate Duo multi-factor authentication before logging in. Please allow extra time for this step.
Local Students
First-year students inside SDSU’s local admissions area are not required to live on campus. However, local students not in the Weber Honors College who wish to live on campus should complete the Housing Interest List on the Housing Portal starting March 1. On-campus housing for local students is not guaranteed and is offered based on availability, on a first-come, first-served basis. If space is available, students will be notified on a rolling basis between May 15 and August move-in.
Local students who are in the Weber Honors College are also not required to live on campus but may choose to. If they opt for on-campus housing, they are guaranteed a spot in the Honors Residential Learning Community (RLC) in Zura if they complete the Student Housing License Agreement and submit the non-refundable payment by May 1.
Exemptions
SDSU recognizes that exemptions to the residency requirement may be appropriate in certain circumstances and may be requested by completing the Exemption Request Form. More information regarding exemptions may be found on the License Agreement page.
