About
Tarastec is an apartment-style community for sophomore students. Tarastec offers 1 and 2-bedroom units with double and single-occupancy rooms. Room types are based on availability and cannot be guaranteed. The license agreement period for Tarastec is 9 months (academic year). This community is conveniently located on the west side of campus near the Tony Gwynn Stadium.
Ancient Aztec Meaning
Tzintzuntzan meaning “place of hummingbirds” was the capital of the Purépecha state (also called the Tarascan state).

Construction Impact
As part of SDSU’s Evolve Student Housing project, the demolition of Tarastec and the International Student Center will begin in summer 2025 to make way for a new on-campus residential community and amenity building. The project is part of SDSU’s strategic priority to offer additional and financially competitive on-campus student housing.
Construction is scheduled to start at the end of the spring 2025 semester. During construction, residents of The Tecs (Huaxtepec, Metepec, Mixquic, Toltec, Zacatepec and Zapotec) and Huaxyacac will experience construction noise between 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
